QOTW: When Did You Go Back to Work?

I stayed home with my kids until they started VPK and it was a decision that always made me think. Did I go back too soon? Did I go back too late? Should I have not stayed home at all? I stayed home because it was hands down the most economical choice, I think daycare was more than the paycheck I would have been bringing home.

I’m curious to see how many of you stayed home with your kids, for how long and the reason why.

QOTW: St. Patrick’s Day Edition

I will start this post by saying I am not Irish, but I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, so that kind of counts. Every year on St. Patrick’s Day my Mom would make corned beef, cabbage and potatoes. It’s a tradition for us, even though we’re Polish. So I’m curious:

What are your St. Patrick’s Day traditions?

QOTW: New Parent Advice

This past week at work we held a conference on crisis and risk communication (I think that’s pretty related to having multiples, no?) and one of our speakers, I found out, is pregnant with twins. I always love meeting soon-to-be parents of multiples and love answering their questions. I love it even more when I can answer said questions without a four-year-old asking me a million questions.

When I was pregnant with Aaron and Jill I always received the same advice: get them on a schedule, always take help and then there was the promise that no matter what, it gets better. While that advice is fine and dandy (and usually something I pass on) I like to add the following:

  • Take shifts throughout the night. Scott and I used to split the night so that way each of us was guaranteed at least 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
  • Do not take anything your spouse says to you in the first three months to heart. You are sleep deprived and on edge.
  • Just because it worked for someone else does not mean it will work for you. Do not force anything because everyone else said it’s the right thing to do. You know your kids better than anyone else. Go with your gut.
  • Take care of you! It is so hard to do this in those first few months, but honestly, it is so important.

What is your go to advice for a new parent of multiples?

QOTW: Talking to Your Kids About Loss

My grandmother passed away this past Monday. She would have been 96 on March 12th. I haven’t said anything to the kids yet and have really tried to shield them from what’s going on thus far. We will be attending the memorial at the end of the month and I’m not totally sure how to discuss this with the kids. They met her twice and they were really little both times. So here’s the QOTW:

How do you discuss loss with your kids?

QOTW: Winter Activities

We actually had a pretty cold weekend this weekend, well for Florida anyway, and I know the majority of you are dealing with the cold as well. There is only so much you can do with kids that are full of energy inside a house, so I have to ask…

What are your favorite winter activities?
