The featured blogger this week is Brandon of The Daddy Dialogues! I love when Dad’s request to be featured bloggers and Brandon’s blog is fantastic! Brandon is the proud Dad of 15 month old girls, Grace and Ana. I hope you enjoy Brandon’s blog as much as I do!

What made you decide to start a blog?

At first I started writing it because there were so few dad bloggers out there, and I wanted to give a fresh perspective on the whole raising multiples experience. But the more I wrote, the more it turned into a story for my girls to read when they’re old enough. I want them to be able to look back and say “So this is what we put dad through” or “He really loves us.”

Were you surprised to find out your wife was carrying twins?

We had a little trouble getting pregnant. Or more accurately staying pregnant. We had lost two pregnancies early. On one of them we went in for an appointment and instead of hearing the heartbeat on the ultrasound we only heard the doctor say “This isn’t good.” So we were very nervous when we went in for the first ultrasound this time around. When the doctor said “There’s the heartbeat” my head was in the clouds. I was giddy. Then he followed that with “…and here’s the other heartbeat.” I would pay anything to go back in time with a camera, so I could take a picture of my wife’s face. It was exciting, surprising and seemingly meant to be. We lost two before and had two coming in one shot.

Your girls spent some time in the NICU, what advice do you have for other families that may have to spend time in the NICU as well?

The nurses in the NICU are quite possibly the best people in the world. They work hard and long hours and do it simply because they love to help. They also don’t judge you if you’re scared or timid. You will be scared, and it’s only natural. The nurses will do whatever they can to help you and guide you. Ask questions if you’re unsure. And be sure to thank them whenever you can.

I love the story behind your daughter Grace’s middle name, can you share it?

My wife’s water broke the morning before Game Five of the 2010 World Series. Both of us are huge Giants fans. We ended up watching the Giants clinch their first championship in over 50 years in Labor and Delivery, and we’ve told people that they obviously wanted to get out to see it. We had a tough time coming up with a middle name for Grace. In honor of her timing, we decided to name her Grace Posey after Buster Posey of the Giants.

What do you wish you knew before having your girls?

That random strangers would now find it okay to strike up conversation with you simply because the oddity that is twins. I’m not a fan of speaking to people I don’t know, so I really wish I knew that twins would force me to do something I hate.

What is your favorite thing to do as a family?

I love mornings in our bed as a family. Sundays are especially fantastic because both Erin and I are off work. We all snuggle up in the bed and wrestle. It’s my favorite time of every week, and I know it’s the time that can’t last forever.
