Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (proclaimed in 2010 by President Obama). Unfortunately, a lot of us know a family, or families, who have been effected by Childhood Cancer. Just 8 months ago my dear friend Amy Raub watched as her son Bryce earned his angel wings. Bryce was almost 2 years old and quite honestly the sweetest little boy I have ever had the privilege of meeting.
On September 21 at Union Station in Washington DC, 46 mothers (my friend Amy is one of them!) from around the country will gather to shave their heads in solidarity with their children who have fought or are currently fighting cancer. These 46 women call themselves the “46 Mommas.” Here’s a video from last years event (grab a tissue or two):
Why the 46 Mommas? This group represents the startling reality that each weekday 46 families are told that their child has cancer. The Mommas come from all over the country, and there may be one from your area. Here are the 46 Mommas:
