Crafting a Simple Silhouette

1. Take a picture of your child’s (or you could use your pet too) profile.
(I took my daughter’s picture against a dark wall and used my flash – if you are making more than one, just BE SURE they stand in the same spot and you do not change your camera settings during shots – the silhouettes will be different sizes).
2. Sync your pictures up to your computer. I then turned my picture black & white and printed on photo paper .
3. Now, carefully cut out the silhouettes exactly.
4. Place silhouettes on plastic wrap (so the will not stick)and paint them black – you can paint the picture side or the back of the picture whichever.
When dry, place silhouettes on the background paper and center.
You can use double-stick tape, glue or modge podge the silhouette to the background paper.
Now place in a frame
Pro tip: you could add a little something extra by writing the child’s name, initials, date, etc. on the paper also.
This is a simple but gorgeous craft. This hang in my foyer and I get so many compliments on them.
Happy Crafting!

Very sweet! Our school does these and cuts them out on black construction paper but I find it fades after a year or so…the black paint works great! LOVE the pony tail 🙂
I did a project very similar to this for my students this past year – we used colorful scrapbook paper though instead of black for an interesting contrast. I want to do them with my own kids but have not gotten around to it yet. Maybe I'll do them and hang them in our basement which still has blank walls.
I love this project idea!! You always have the funnest things to do!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
This is a great idea! I love old fashioned silhouttes, but have never gotten around to making any. I will definitely try this out!
Cute craft, I like it.
This is adorable, Missy! Thanks for sharing it!
I love this. Even a craft hack like me should be able to do this one. I am going to give it a go anyway. Will post my results in the upcoming weeks. Thanks Missy for the idea!
Very cute!!
Another definite idea we'll do over here — yours turned out so beautifully!! Thanks for sharing ….
Love it! I'm going to do it of my own kids for my house & with my kids at school this year! I think their parents will love it!
