This week we are reviewing two brand new DVD’s about going back to school (a very fitting theme this week, no?). The first DVD is Nickelodeon’s “First Day of School” and the second (and the one we will be giving away) is Anchor Bay’s Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! “Wubbzy Goes to School”.
As I just mentioned, it’s time to get ready to go back to school, not just in your house, but over at Nickelodeon as well! Dora, Diego, Blue, Kai-Lan and the Wonder Pets are all featured on this brand new DVD, released July 13th. “The First Day of School” features 5 episodes from your favorite Nickelodeon friends.
Dora the Explorer starts off the DVD with her First Day of School Episode. Dora helps her friends Boots and Tico prepare for their very first day of school where they will learn both English and Spanish. This episode was really cute and with all Dora episodes I love the interaction with the viewers.
Dora’s cousin Diego is up next and needs to help Alicia open her brand new library on top of the mountain. This episode is a great one for interaction with your kids as you help Linda the Llama run up and down the mountain by saying “arriba/abajo”.
The third episode on the DVD comes from our personal favorite, Blue’s Clues. In Blue takes you to school, you get to join Periwinkle on his first day of preschool while learning about taking turns and respecting others.
The fourth episode is from the Wonder Pets. The first half of the episode features Baby Blowfish and the Wonder Pets help her overcome her separation anxiety (which really I think is more for the parents, or at least for me) on her first day of fish preschool. The second half of the episode the Wonder Pets help save the Pangaroo (a fictional animal that is part kangaroo and part parrot) from the trash after being thrown away.
The final episode is from our other favorite, Ni Hao Kai-lan. Like Dora and Diego I love Kai-lan because of the interaction between the show and the viewer. In this episode (Lulu Day) Kai-lan and Lulu have a playdate but cannot agree on what to play. Kai-lan and Lulu need your help to figure out a way to compromise and play things that make both of their hearts feel super happy.
The whole DVD is great and is a new favorite for us on rainy days. You can find Nickelodeon’s First Day of School in stores and it retails for about $16.99.
The first episode, “Who Needs School?”, Wubbzy thinks that he doesn’t need to go to school because he can learn everything on his own, but quickly learns that school isn’t so bad after all. I think this is a great episode if you have kiddos nervous about a new beginning at school.
In another episode, “New Kid On The Block” Wubbzy learns about meeting and accepting new friends. Murphy, the new student who is larger than life, helps Wubbzy learn that friends come in all shapes and sizes.
The additional episodes, “Gotta Dance,” “Wubbzy the Star,” “You Gotta Have Art,” and “Magic Tricks” keep the main goal of the show (valuing friendship and community) at the front and center. I have to say the fact that this show focuses on the importance of friendship and community is fantastic. The DVD is also full of amazing bonus features like “Meet Wubbzy’s Schoolmates,” and coloring and activity sheets.
