Rebekah of Outnumbered

The featured blogger this week is Rebekah of Outnumbered! Rebekah is the proud MoM of 3 year old Taylor and twins Carter and Hunter who are newly 1. I hope you enjoy Rebekah and her blog as much as I do!
Why did you decide to start a blog?
I started blogging when my oldest, Taylor, was a couple months old. At the time, it was a cute way to inform and show our family and friends what was going on in our lives as well as how Taylor was growing. As our family has expanded, it is by far the easiest way to keep people updated. It’s the quickest way to pass along the information in our crazy busy lives.
Were you surprised to find out you were pregnant with twins?
As soon as we found out we were pregnant for the second time, my husband was confident that we were having twins. Throughout the first couple weeks before our first ultrasound he referred to them as “the babies”. He didn’t doubt for one second that they were a singleton. I, on the other hand, thought Tommy was insane. There was no way I was pregnant with twins. On the day of our ultrasound, we found out that Tommy was indeed correct. I was definitely surprised by the sight of two babies inside on the monitor. I cried tears of excitement and fear.
How did Taylor take to becoming a big brother of twins?
Taylor started out as an amazing helper with the twins. He turned two just a few months prior to their arrival. There wasn’t a whole lot he could do, but he eagerly took on any helping roles possible. As the twins have gotten more mobile and active, Taylor will still help out at times. He goes back and forth from seeing them as playmates to seeing them as his own children. He often mimics what we do to soothe them and make them feel better.
How did your transition with going back to work go?
I’ve only been back to work for three weeks. It has been a whole new world. It is extremely challenging to get everything done that needs to be done while still having time for the kids as well as time with my husband. Before having the twins, I taught 4th grade for seven years. This year, I was moved to 3rd grade. The differences aren’t extreme, but it is a lot for a mom with 3 kids 3 and under at home. It’s taken a lot of time and energy to prepare and start a new year in a new grade. As a 3rd grade teacher, my work often comes home with me. The first few weeks of school are always overwhelming with much to do. I currently do not feel I have adequately balanced my roles of wife, mother, and teacher; however, this is my goal. I am determined to spend quality time with my family when I am at home, but yet be an effective teacher giving my all while at school.
What are some of your favorite activities to do as a whole family?
Our favorite times together are outside. We love to play in the driveway and yard as well as go on family walks. The walks are always the highlight of our day. It’s a time where the kids are out, enjoying the fresh air, and a time where Tommy and I can easily talk about anything we want.
What question(s) do you have for the other families?
Any tips for working mothers of multiples??

I’m a teacher and mom of twins and my best advice is to just let some things go! I used to be a total neat freak and since having the girls, I have realized that having a perfect house is less important that quality time with the girls. For you, it may be not putting stickers on papers every time you grade them or some other little thing you do that takes time but may not be super important. Good Luck 🙂
Be flexible – our arrangements have changed a zillion times and still are changing now that mine are 3 and 5, but it all works out somehow.
I have worked outside our home since my triplets were 4 months old. My tip is “outsource”. When I get home from work I want to spend quality time with the kids, not time cleaning my house. So, we went a head and got someone to clean the house weekly and asked our babysitter to start doing the triplets laundry and folding it. Yes, it cost a little, but totally worth it.
