I had a chance to review two of the newest DVDs from Nickelodeon, Sisters and Brothers and Dora’s Ballet Adventure. In Sisters and Brothers you follow a few of your favorite Nick Jr. characters as they learn that even though sisters and brothers can sometimes bring conflict, it’s the resolution and positive relationships that make them the best friends in the world. Here’s a quick synopsis of each episode:
Dora the Explorer – Big Sister Dora: Dora has some really exciting news: someone new is joining Dora’s family! Someone who sleeps in a cradle, drinks from a bottle, wears diapers, and likes to be rocked to sleep. Dora’s Mami is having a baby! Maybe it’s a boy…or maybe it’s a girl. Dora and Boots have to get home quickly to find out!
Go, Diego, Go! – To Babysit a Bobo: The Bobos’s are on their way to the Spider Monkey Fiesta with their 3 new Baby Bobo Sisters. And as the Bobos search for fruit for the party, the restless Bobo Sisters speed off into the forest to look for fruit without them!
Blue’s Clues – The Baby’s Here!: While waiting for Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper to call from the hospital with news of the new baby here, Paprika prepares to be a big sister. Looking at baby books gives everyone a chance to learn about what they were like when they were really little.
Wonder Pets! – KalamaZoo! / Back to KalamaZoo!: Ming-Ming visits her Aunt Eleanora at the local petting zoo during a school holiday. Eleanora asks Ming-Ming to take care of her toddler cousin, Marvin, for the afternoon. Ming-Ming thinks this will be a “piece-of-cake” but Marvin proves to be quite a spirited little Duck. Ming-Ming must learn to look beyond her own needs and find the patience and compassion to take care of Marvin.
Ni Hao, Kai-lan – Hoho’s Big Flight: On the day of the big lantern festival to celebrate the end of Chinese New Year, Grampa gives Kai-lan some lanterns for her and her friends to decorate. But when Hoho’s lantern flies away, he jumps on it, and everyone goes on a big chase to get him down!
This DVD was adorable and the kiddos loved watching it, I just wish some of the conflict resolution rubbed off on them. You can find Sisters and Brothers in stores and at Amazon.com.
Dora’s Ballet Adventures contains 4 of her dancing episodes. The most recent, Dora’s Ballet Adventure, was just featured on Nickelodeon and if you’ve been in a toy aisle lately you’ve seen all the new products based around this episode. Here’s a quick synopsis of each episode:
Dora’s Ballet Adventure: Dora’s dance class is getting ready for a special dance recital and her whole family’s there to watch her perform. They just need to wait for the Delivery Duck to deliver their ballet slippers. But the Delivery Duck brings scuba flippers instead of ballet slippers! Dora and Boots must get the slippers before the recital begins.
Dora, La Músico: C’mon and join the musical parade! Dora and Boots are leading a parranda over the Piano Bridge and through the Singing Gate to free the instruments that were locked up by the evil Señor Shhh!
The Super Silly Fiesta: Dora and Boots are invited to the Big Red Chicken’s Super Silly Fiesta where there will be silly snacks, silly games, silly hats and even silly dancing. But, the Big Red Chicken lost his party cake! Dora and Boots set off to save the fiesta. After searching forever, they find the cake in the silliest place Big Red Chicken could have left it – on his head!
Surprise: It’s Boots’ birthday! Dora tells him that all of his friends are waiting at her house to give Boots a big party. To reach Dora’s house, they’ll have to climb a long flight of Stairs and cross the Troll Bridge.
Jill loved this DVD and spent the majority of her time dancing along with Dora and Boots. I love that about Dora the Explorer, it encourages interaction from your kids as they watch it. You can find this DVD exclusively at Target.
Thank you again to my friends at Nick for sending these over!
What’s your favorite Nickelodeon show?
We are still huge Dora fans in my house. I think it was "Dora's Ballet Adventure" that was on recently and heavily promoted. My girls made me set a "reminder" on the TV so they wouldn't miss it!
