I am not ashamed to admit that I watch The Secret Life of the American Teenager every week on ABC Family, and have since it debuted.  I was a fan of 7th Heaven back in the day so when I saw Brenda Hampton created a new series, I had to watch.  The show tackles the tough subject of teen sex and pregnancy.  Amy Juergen’s, the main character, becomes pregnant her freshman year of high school and the show covers not only her struggles and triumphs, but those of her friends and family as well.  Something that I love about this show is it isn’t as candy coated as 7th Heaven was, it’s pretty believable with what is going on.

New on DVD, The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Volume Six is a 3-disc set, available to own for the first time, so fans can revisit the drama again and again of the season’s first 12 episodes. Here’s a quick synopsis of what’s on the DVD:

Get ready to experience all the excitement, passion and power of this acclaimed ABC Family series.  Unlikely friendships are forged, longtime loyalties are tested and once-solid relationships tremble on shaky ground in the wake of jealousy, competition and raging hormones.  With wedding bells about to chime for Ben and Adrian, Amy tries to pressure Ricky for a similar commitment. Meanwhile, Grace and Grant consider taking their romance to the next level, and an unexpected event turns lives and loves upside down.  Anything can happen – and does – in this phenomenal, must-own Sixth Volume!

This season was really one of the best seasons thus far, obviously aside from the first.  I cannot say enough good things about this show, its actors, or the message it is sending. If you have teenagers I really recommend them watching this show. I think it does a far better job than 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom in regards to not glamorizing teen pregnancy.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Volume Six is available in stores and on Amazon.com.
