Tips for Breastfeeding with Sara Chana

I haven’t written any posts on breastfeeding lately, so I spoke with Sara Chana, a bicoastal expert for early childhood development as well as a homeopath, herbalist, breastfeeding expert and birthing instructor. With seven children of her own guides parents through the challenging worlds of being a working parent. Sara is a consultant to many obstetricians, midwives and pediatricians and guides mothers in how to ask the proper questions of their doctors to ensure that they and their children receive the most appropriate and comprehensive healthcare.

Good points, just wanted to add that if your babies are in the NICU you will probably HAVE to start them on bottles, or at least they will spend some time using a bottle, especially if you have HOM. Don’t let that freak you out…my triplet boys were nursed/bottle fed (and had pacifiers!) from as early as they could and they did fine until 11 months (rotating bottle with pumped milk/bottle with formula/nursing) and never had any problems.
This was great. I especially liked the line “I am just concerned that women who are getting into trouble nursing in public are so busy trying to make a statement that they disregard the important goal of breastfeeding which is nursing quickly and effectively and for as long as she can!”
I couldn’t agree more. I’m a big breastfeeding advocate and successfully nursed my twins for more than a year but I was always discreet out of politeness for others. Bloucy shirts where I could slip a baby underneath without much notice worked very well.
One more credit to add to Ms. Chana’s resume–Courteney Cox (Friends) look-alike! Don’t you think?
Very interesting article with some very good tips.
